We recently had a young patient who took a tumble off their scooter and knocked their front tooth completely out (tooth avulsion)! Thanks to fast action and same day treatment our team were able to reimplant and splint the tooth- giving it the best chance to reattach and heal.

Dental injuries can be distressing - but staying calm and acting quickly makes all the difference.

1. Act fast — the tooth has the best chance of survival if reimplanted ASAP

2. Handle it by the crown (the white part), never the root — touching the root can damage the cells needed for reattachment.

3. Rinse gently with milk or saline if dirty — don’t scrub it or use tap water/soap.

4. Try to reinsert it into the socket yourself if possible, and bite down gently on a clean cloth to hold it in place.

5. Can’t reinsert it? Store it in milk, saliva, or a tooth-preservation kit (like Save-A-Tooth) — never in water or wrapped in a dry tissue.

6. Get to a dentist immediately — every minute counts.

After reimplantation, follow-up care matters just as much:

• Soft diet for 1–2 weeks

• Gentle brushing around the area, chlorhexidine rinse as advised

• Avoid biting with the front teeth until cleared

• Follow-up visits to check healing and remove the splint

• Watch for signs of infection or discoloration — root canal treatment may be needed later depending on the tooth’s condition

We’re an ACC-registered provider, so dental injuries like that can be covered.
