Dental Implants

Do you suffer from tooth loss and require a long-term restorative dental solution? If so, dental implants may be a reliable treatment to consider.

Dental implants are a scientifically proven tooth replacement option. At Urban Dental Studio, we place and repair dental implants, so our patients can attain their healthiest smiles.

The Components of a Dental Implant

Dental implants permanently replace one or several missing teeth. A dental implant consists of three main parts: the implant post, the abutment, and the dental prosthetic.

The Implant Post  The implant post is a titanium fixture your dentist surgically places in the jaw below the gum line. Over time, the jaw bone naturally grows around the biocompatible post, permanently stabilising the implant.

The Abutment  The abutment connects the dental prosthetic to the implant post.

The Dental Prosthetic  The dental prosthetic is the artificial tooth your dentist creates to match your smile seamlessly.

Depending on the patient's needs, dental implants can hold a crown, dental bridge or denture. Dental crowns replace one tooth or several teeth that are not next to each other. A bridge replaces two or more adjacent teeth, and a denture replaces an entire row of missing teeth in the upper or lower arch of the mouth.

The Dental Implant Process

Dr Juliane first makes sure the patient is completely comfortable and relaxed. She then numbs the area of the mouth where she will place the implant.

Dr Juliane carefully places the implant post into the tooth root pocket below the gum line. Once the post is in place, the patient's gum tissue must heal.

Also, the jawbone naturally grows around the implant post during this time, making the implant permanent, sturdy, and secure. This process is called osseointegration

Once the mouth fully heals, Dr Juliane attaches the abutment and customised restoration to the dental implant. We ensure the prosthesis looks, fits and functions as it should, and she also makes sure you are satisfied with the results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental implants are a permanent solution to tooth loss. If you have a missing tooth or several missing teeth, dental implants may be a beneficial replacement option for you. We will evaluate your oral health and determine if you are a good candidate for dental implant treatment.

Caring for Your Dental Implants

Caring for dental implants is much like caring for natural teeth. The better you take care of your smile, the longer it has a chance to last.

Because dental implants are surgically placed in the jaw below the gum line, they naturally fuse to the jawbone over time. However, the abutment that connects the dental crown to the dental implant, as well as the dental crown itself, may require repair or replacement.

A dental crown that tops an implant can last for 10 to 15 years, but one must practise excellent oral health habits to retain its strength, function and appearance.

Here are some tips for dental implant care:

  • Brush and floss to reduce the risk of plaque buildup and gum irritation.
  • Avoid chewy or crunchy foods (e.g. caramel, ice, taffy) that can break or dislodge the crown.
  • Visit your dentist for twice-yearly exams and cleanings to help keep your teeth and restorations healthy and functional.

If you need dental crown repair or replacement, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We can place and restore dental implants in Auckland at your convenience.
