Porcelain Veneers

Have you ever wondered how TV and film stars get their picture-perfect smiles? Many celebrities, like Jim Carrey and Demi Moore, can attribute their straight, white teeth to cosmetic dentistry treatments. Porcelain veneers are a preferred cosmetic dental solution to various smile imperfections.

Veneers are a go-to for people who desire a balanced, natural smile with beautifully aligned teeth. Each veneer is specifically designed to improve the appearance, shape, colour and size of the patient’s teeth.

During your first dental veneer appointment, your dentist will discuss all of the potential benefits of veneers and determine if they are a viable treatment option for you.

Porcelain Veneers Conceal Aesthetic Flaws

A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain your dentist customises to your specifications for optimal shape, fit and appearance. Veneers require minimal tooth preparation and can effectively transform one's smile.

Ultimately, porcelain veneers can:

  • Revitalise the tooth's surface
  • Conceal chips, cracks and dental wear
  • Cover badly stained or discoloured teeth
  • Close gaps and slight spacing issues
  • Mask mild alignment concerns

Employing a conservative approach to cosmetic dentistry, we strive to preserve as much of the patient's natural tooth structure as possible. Whether a patient's teeth look crooked, stained, gapped, chipped or inconsistent in size and shape, our team can help.

We Create Customised Tooth-Coloured Veneers

First, the dentist must determine if the patient is a candidate for veneers by reviewing their oral health history and performing a thorough dental examination. We also discuss the patient's cosmetic dental goals and develop a personalised plan to achieve those goals.

The dentist begins by taking digital impressions of the patient's teeth to create their custom veneers. Digital smile design helps us and the patient see what the final product will look like before starting the treatment.

We then create a temporary veneer made from the impression so the patient can determine if they have speech difficulties or discomfort. Any concern can then be addressed and corrected to ensure the final veneer will provide a seamless and natural smile.

The dentist then gently prepares the patient's tooth to receive the veneer and bonds it to the front surfaces of the tooth or teeth. Our veneer treatments may take a few weeks to complete, from start to finish.

Caring for Your Dental Veneers

Veneers are just like natural teeth and should be cared for as such.

To maintain the health and appearance of your veneered teeth, we recommend that you please:

  • Brush your teeth twice daily.
  • Floss at least once daily.
  • Eat a nutritious diet.
  • Avoid biting or chewing on hard, crunchy or sticky foods and objects (e.g. caramel, ice).
  • Avoid using your teeth as tools to open bottles or packages.
  • See your dentist for routine dental exams and cleans.

Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Our dentists use porcelain veneers to solve various dental issues cosmetically. A premium material used by high-quality dentists, porcelain veneers can fix discoloured, chipped, oddly shaped or misaligned teeth. Porcelain veneers are:

  • Strong
  • Stain-resistant
  • Durable
  • Colour-matched to the patient's teeth

Many of our patients appreciate the longevity and effectiveness of porcelain veneers, making them a preferred solution to mask aesthetic inconsistencies.

It's also important to remember that porcelain veneers are a cosmetic solution applied to healthy teeth. If a patient has tooth decay and gum disease, we will first take care of those issues before applying veneers.

We Invite You to Arrange a Consultation

Veneer placement is a dental procedure that uses tooth-coloured composite material to alter the shape and colour of teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Porcelain veneers are strong, durable and mimic the natural reflective properties of natural teeth, making them a preferred solution for many patients.

Porcelain veneers can correct mild aesthetic concerns, such as:

  • Cracked teeth
  • Worn teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Gummy smiles
  • Stained teeth
  • Mildly misaligned teeth
  • Crowded or crooked teeth

Caring for Porcelain Dental Veneers

Porcelain veneers can last for several years to decades, depending on how well the patient cares for them. Though these veneers are stain-resistant, they can still become worn or damaged over time.

To preserve the condition of your dental veneers, we recommend:

  • Practice excellent oral hygiene, such as daily brushing, flossing and rinsing
  • Avoid consuming hard, crunchy or sticky foods that can cause breaks or chips
  • Do not use your teeth as tools, like to open packages or twist off bottle caps
  • Use oral appliance therapy if you grind or clench your teeth (bruxism) during sleep
  • Wear protective mouth gear if you play sports or participate in certain physical activities
  • Visit your dentist for routine dental exams and cleans

Generally speaking, you may get the most out of your veneers if you treat them with the same exceptional care as you would your natural teeth.

We invite you to contact our Auckland dental clinic to arrange your cosmetic dentistry consultation.
